Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, confirmed through a tissue or cell sample — or, in some cases, through scan findings combined with a raised CA 19-9 blood marker (confirm with trial site)
- People whose cancer cannot be fully removed by surgery, either because the tumour is too close to or wrapped around major blood vessels, or because it has spread to nearby lymph nodes
- People who were originally considered for surgery but whose cancer grew or spread during pre-surgery chemotherapy, making surgery no longer an option
- People who are not able to have further pre-surgery chemotherapy — for example, because their health does not allow it, because the cancer stopped responding to it, or because chemotherapy was completed but surgery is still not possible
- People who have no signs of cancer that has spread to distant parts of the body
- People aged 18 or older
- People who score 70 or above on a standard health and activity scale called the Karnofsky index, which measures how well a person is able to carry out daily activities (confirm with trial site)
- People whose cancer has not grown into the stomach or the first part of the small intestine (duodenum)
- People who are aware of their diagnosis and are able to give written consent to participate
- Women of childbearing potential who are using adequate contraception and are not breastfeeding
- People who have signed a consent form before joining the trial
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose pancreatic tumour is a type that does not originate from the exocrine part of the pancreas (confirm with trial site)
- People with serious medical or mental health conditions that would make radiotherapy unsafe
- People whose cancer has already spread to distant parts of the body
- People who are pregnant, or who are not willing to use adequate contraception
- People who are currently breastfeeding and are not willing to stop
- Men who could father a child and are not willing to use effective contraception
- People who have metal implants or other conditions that would make it impossible to plan or deliver radiotherapy safely, or who have an active infection in the treatment area (confirm with trial site)
- People who have previously had radiotherapy to the abdomen
- People with severely reduced liver or kidney function, as assessed by the treating medical team
- People who do not wish to participate
