Who might be able to join this trial:
- People with a body mass index (BMI) between 25 and 30 (considered slightly overweight)
- People who have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, or people who do not have any diabetes and are otherwise healthy
Who may not be able to join:
- People who currently use nicotine in any form
- People who have been diagnosed with cardiovascular disease (heart or blood vessel problems)
- People whose blood pressure is higher than 160/95
- People who are pregnant
- People who take medications other than insulin, a stable dose of thyroid hormone, statins, or blood pressure medications — noting that beta blocker blood pressure medications are also excluded
- People with type 1 diabetes who have had their diagnosis for less than 6 months
- People with type 1 diabetes who have a serious form of diabetic eye disease (proliferative or severe non-proliferative retinopathy)
- People with type 1 diabetes who have reduced kidney function, specifically a kidney filtration rate (GFR) below 60 ml/min
