  • People whose symptoms started within the last 24 hours.
  • People who are able to give informed consent to take part.

    • A head injury, stroke, or bleeding in the brain in the past 30 days
    • Known cancer that has affected the brain
    • An active cancer diagnosis or cancer treatment within the past 6 months, or cancer that has returned or spread
    • An autoimmune condition such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease, or ulcerative colitis
    • An active infectious disease such as HIV/AIDS or hepatitis C
    • Major surgery within the three months before the stroke symptoms began

Who may not be able to join:

  • People whose stroke symptoms clearly started more than 24 hours before assessment.
