Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who had a specific type of weight-loss stomach surgery (called Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, using a particular stapling method) at least 12 months before the study
- People who took acid-reducing medication (called a proton pump inhibitor) routinely for 6 months after their surgery
- People who have not taken acid-reducing medication for at least 4 weeks before the study begins
- People whose recent camera examination of the stomach (endoscopy) showed no ulcers near the surgical join
- People who are not currently experiencing symptoms such as stomach pain, heartburn, or bringing up food/acid
- People who are willing and able to give their signed consent to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a known intolerance or allergy to the medication Esomeprazole
- People for whom a camera examination of the stomach (endoscopy) is not medically safe
- People who may have difficulty following the study procedures — for example, due to language barriers, psychological conditions, or dementia
- People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- People with serious liver disease or significantly reduced liver function
