Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are older than 20 years of age.
- People who have a stable, ongoing irregular heartbeat (called persistent atrial fibrillation) and have been taking a type of heart-rate-slowing medication called a beta-blocker, at the same dose, for at least 3 months.
- People whose resting heart rate is less than 80 beats per minute.

- People taking beta-blockers for a reason other than controlling heart rate related to atrial fibrillation.
- People who are unable to complete a supervised exercise test that measures heart and lung function (called cardiopulmonary exercise testing).
- People whose health condition means that exercise testing would not be considered safe, based on established medical guidelines for exercise testing.
- People who have an implanted heart device, such as a defibrillator or pacemaker.
- People who are pregnant.
- People who are unable to give their own informed consent to participate in the trial.
