Who might be able to join this trial:
- People between 45 and 75 years old
- People who have been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, or who are considered at risk of developing it (such as those with a sleep condition called REM sleep behavior disorder, or those who have a parent, sibling, or child with Parkinson's or a related condition)
- People diagnosed with conditions related to Parkinson's disease, including Lewy Body Dementia or Multiple System Atrophy (both caused by a similar process in the brain)
- People whose Parkinson's disease falls within a certain range of severity, based on a standard medical scale called Hoehn & Yahr, stages 1 to 4 (confirm with trial site)
- People who are medically able to have a colonoscopy (a camera examination of the large bowel)
- People who are able to understand and agree to take part in the study
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose symptoms suggest a brain or nerve condition other than the group of conditions mentioned above
- People diagnosed with certain other brain or nerve conditions, such as Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy, stroke, multiple sclerosis, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, Corticobasal syndrome, or a primary mitochondrial disorder
- People with a serious ongoing illness that is expected to shorten life expectancy to less than 24 months, or a serious medical condition that is not well managed
- People with signs of active cancer or other significant abnormalities found on a chest X-ray
- People with active or untreated conditions affecting the stomach or bowel
- People who cannot safely stop taking blood-thinning or anti-clotting medications, even temporarily
- People with a history of alcohol or drug misuse (including barbiturates, cannabis, or amphetamines) within the last 5 years
- People for whom a colonoscopy or the associated anaesthetic is not medically safe
- People who are pregnant
- People whom the trial doctor considers unsuitable for the study for any other reason
