Who might be able to join this trial:

- People who have moderate or severe narrowing of the carotid arteries (the main blood vessels in the neck that supply blood to the brain), as determined by a specific medical standard (confirm with trial site)
- People who have a history of stroke, whether caused by a blocked blood vessel or bleeding in the brain
- People who have uncontrolled diabetes or any other ongoing illness that affects the body's automatic nervous system (the system that controls things like heart rate and blood pressure without conscious effort)
- People who have fainted within the past week
- People who are unable to read
- People who are currently taking medications to lower blood pressure (such as clonidine, hydralazine, verapamil, diltiazem, or medications whose names end in "-olol", "-artan", or "-pril"), water pills (diuretics such as furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide, or spironolactone), or medications for an enlarged prostate (such as prazosin, terazosin, doxazosin, alfuzosin, or tamsulosin) — note: people taking these medications are encouraged to speak with their prescribing doctor about whether it may be safe to stop taking them for 48 hours before the study visit, as this may affect eligibility
- People who have hearing or vision problems that cannot be corrected with hearing aids or glasses
- People who are currently pregnant (women who could potentially be pregnant will be asked to take a urine pregnancy test to confirm)
- People who, in the opinion of the trial investigators, have any other condition that could put them at increased risk by participating
