Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are between 25 and 50 years old

  • You are currently diagnosed with major depression (assessed using a structured interview called the SCID-5)
  • You are willing and able to give written consent to participate

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have another mental health condition in addition to your major depression
  • You have a serious physical illness that needs to be treated as a priority
  • You have been diagnosed with prostate cancer, a pre-cancerous prostate condition (PIN), severe urinary problems, a blood condition called erythrocytosis, or sleep apnea that has been diagnosed but is not being treated
  • You are currently taking thyroid hormones, finasteride, epilepsy medications, muscle-building (anabolic) compounds, strong sleeping tablets more than twice a week, long-acting sedative medications (benzodiazepines), antipsychotic medications, or any drugs that affect testosterone levels in the blood
  • You have a genetic or hormonal condition such as Klinefelter's syndrome, Cushing's disease, Addison's disease, or Hashimoto's thyroiditis
