Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 or older
- People who are willing and able to provide written consent to participate
- People who have been diagnosed with advanced chronic liver disease (long-term scarring of the liver), caused by any underlying condition
- People for whom a liver pressure measurement procedure (called HVPG) has been recommended by their doctor, and who have already had a specific type of MRI scan (called 3D-MRE) within the past month
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have cancer in the liver or elsewhere in the body, or large growths in the liver or spleen that could affect the MRI scan results
- People who have a medical reason why they cannot safely have an MRI scan or the liver pressure measurement procedure
- People who have previously had surgery on their liver or spleen that could affect the MRI scan results
- People who have taken a type of blood pressure medication called non-selective beta-blockers in the period between their MRI scan and their liver pressure measurement
- People whose MRI scan or liver pressure measurement results were not clear or reliable enough to use
- People who have a blockage or widening of the bile ducts visible on their MRI scan
