Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have agreed to take part and signed a consent form (or assent form if applicable)
- You have Type 1 diabetes (adults or children are welcome) — OR —
- You are an adult with Type 2 diabetes — OR —
- You have tested positive for certain diabetes-related antibodies (insulin, GAD, IA-2, IAA, or ZnT8) and your blood sugar level (HbA1c) is 5.6% or below (adults or children are welcome) — OR —
- You are an adult who has been told you have higher-than-normal blood sugar levels (HbA1c between 5.7% and 6.4%) — OR —
- You are a healthy adult volunteer with a normal blood sugar level (HbA1c of 5.6% or below)
- You weigh at least 30 kg (about 66 pounds)
- You are willing to give blood samples and allow the team to review relevant medical records if needed
Who may not be able to join:
- Healthy volunteers who have any ongoing long-term health conditions, or who have had a cell, tissue, or organ transplant
- People with sickle cell disease or untreated anemia (treated anemia with confirmed normal blood results within the last 6 months may be acceptable — confirm with trial site)
- People who currently have an active infection
- People currently receiving treatment for cancer
- People who have taken certain immune-system-affecting medications within the past year, such as immune checkpoint inhibitors or similar drugs (confirm with trial site for full list)
- People with Type 1 diabetes who have received certain specialised immune cell therapies (confirm with trial site)
- People with a bleeding disorder
- Women who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding (eligibility may be revisited at a later date)
- People with diabetes who have any health condition that could be made worse by having a small amount of blood (up to 100 mL) taken
- People who work directly for or are supervised by the lead researcher or study team members involved in this trial
