Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 18 and 85 years old (male or female)
- You have been diagnosed with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat that comes and goes) and are experiencing symptoms from it
- Your doctor has determined that a catheter ablation procedure (a treatment for irregular heartbeat) is a suitable option for you
- You are willing and able to sign a consent form agreeing to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a medical reason why catheter ablation is not safe for you
- You have a medical reason why general anaesthesia (being put to sleep for a procedure) is not safe for you
- You have a blood clot in the left side of your heart
- You have moderate or severe disease affecting your heart valves
- You have any type of disease affecting the heart muscle (confirm with trial site)
- You have severe disease affecting the blood vessels in your brain
- You are currently experiencing active bleeding from your stomach or digestive system
- Your kidneys are not working well enough, or you are on dialysis, or at risk of needing dialysis
- You currently have an active infection or a fever
- Your expected life expectancy is shorter than the length of the trial
- You are allergic to contrast dye (a substance used in medical imaging)
- You have moderate to severe heart failure or significant limitations on your physical activity due to heart problems
- You have a bleeding or clotting disorder, or cannot take a blood-thinning medication called heparin
- Your diabetes is not well controlled (based on specific blood sugar measurements — confirm with trial site)
- You have a cancer that currently requires treatment
- You are pregnant, or you are a woman who could become pregnant and are not using a highly effective form of contraception
- You are unable to give informed consent to participate
