Who might be able to join this trial:

People with pancreatic cancer (12 spots):

  • Adults aged 18 or older who have recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer (whether it has spread or not) and who have been on tube feeding or IV nutrition for 14 days or less

Within that group, people with cachexia (significant muscle and weight loss — 6 spots):

  • People who have lost more than 5% of their body weight without trying over the last 6 months, OR have lost more than 2% of their body weight and have a low body weight (BMI under 20), OR have been found to have significant muscle loss measured by a body composition test

Within that group, people without cachexia (6 spots):

  • People whose weight has been stable (within 2%) over the last 6 months, who had a normal appetite before diagnosis, and who have no known issues with blood sugar regulation

Healthy volunteers (12 spots):

  • Adults aged 18 or older with a BMI between 18.5 and 30, no ongoing or recent illness, who are matched in gender and age (within 5 years) to a participant with pancreatic cancer already enrolled in the trial

Who may not be able to join:

  • People under 18 years of age
  • People who are unable to give their own consent to participate
  • People who do not have sufficient knowledge of French or German
  • People whose pancreatic cancer has already been treated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or major surgery such as removal of part of the pancreas or a bile duct bypass procedure
  • People with a known rheumatological or immune system disease
  • People who have taken antibiotic or immune-suppressing medications (such as steroids, certain cancer drugs, or biological medicines) in the 30 days before joining the trial
