Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have been clinically confirmed to have carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) of any severity, meaning they experience numbness, pain, or tingling in the wrist and fingers in the area served by the median nerve
  • People whose carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms have been present for at least 3 weeks
  • People who have not had a corticosteroid (steroid) injection for carpal tunnel syndrome in the last 6 months
  • People who have never had surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome
  • People aged 18 years or older
  • People who are able to fill in questionnaires electronically
  • People who are able to understand Finnish
  • People who are willing to participate in the study and follow its instructions
  • People who are willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have nerve or nerve network conditions in the neck or shoulder area (such as cervical radiculopathy, thoracic outlet syndrome, or whiplash-related disorders) that could be causing symptoms similar to carpal tunnel syndrome
  • People who have another neurological condition affecting hand function, such as Multiple Sclerosis or a previous nerve injury
  • People who have active rheumatoid arthritis or any other active inflammatory joint condition affecting the hand
  • People who have significant muscle wasting at the base of the thumb (confirm with trial site)
  • People who have untreated underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism)
  • People who have a known allergy to any of the materials used in a wrist splint
  • People who have already been treated for carpal tunnel syndrome for more than 4 months without any improvement
  • People who have any other reason that would prevent them from taking part for the full duration of the study (confirm with trial site)
