Who might be able to join this trial:

• The person must be 18 years of age or older.
• The person has been diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), which is a condition where stomach acid flows back up into the throat or food pipe.
• The person experiences symptoms such as ear, nose, or throat problems, a long-lasting cough, choking, or food coming back up into the throat.
• The person has a diagnosis of GERD with symptoms beyond the food pipe, or has been diagnosed with inflammation of the food pipe, a hiatal hernia (where part of the stomach pushes up into the chest), achalasia (a condition affecting swallowing), or spasms of the food pipe.
• The person must not be pregnant or breastfeeding.

Who may not be able to join:

• People younger than 18 or older than 85 years of age.
• People who have sleep apnea or use a CPAP breathing machine.
• People who have had previous surgery or radiation treatment to the head or neck.
• People with carotid artery disease, thyroid disease, or a history of stroke or related blood vessel conditions affecting the brain.
• People who are unable to tolerate having a thin tube passed through the nose.
• People with serious bleeding disorders where passing a tube through the nose has been considered unsafe by a doctor.
• People with a known blockage in the food pipe that would prevent a measuring probe from passing through.
