Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults between 18 and 60 years of age whose bones have finished growing
- People who have neck problems (such as spinal cord or nerve root compression) caused by a herniated disc or disc degeneration at a single level in the neck (between the 3rd and 7th neck vertebrae)
- People whose symptoms have not improved after at least six weeks of non-surgical treatments
- People who are planning to have a cervical disc replacement procedure to treat their main neck complaint
- People who have signed a consent form agreeing to take part in the trial
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have previously had surgery on their neck/cervical spine
- People who have more than two problem levels in the neck that require surgery
- People who have a known allergy to metal alloys or polyethylene (a type of plastic)
- People who are classified as morbidly obese
- People who have an active infection, either in the neck area or elsewhere in the body
- People whose ability to give informed consent, attend follow-up appointments, or complete self-assessments may be affected by conditions such as psychiatric disorders or chronic alcohol or substance use
