Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Adults between 18 and 60 years of age whose bones have finished growing
  • People who have neck problems (such as spinal cord or nerve root compression) caused by a herniated disc or disc degeneration at a single level in the neck (between the 3rd and 7th neck vertebrae)
  • People whose symptoms have not improved after at least six weeks of non-surgical treatments

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have previously had surgery on their neck/cervical spine
  • People who have more than two problem levels in the neck that require surgery
  • People who have a known allergy to metal alloys or polyethylene (a type of plastic)
  • People who are classified as morbidly obese
  • People who have an active infection, either in the neck area or elsewhere in the body
  • People whose ability to give informed consent, attend follow-up appointments, or complete self-assessments may be affected by conditions such as psychiatric disorders or chronic alcohol or substance use
