Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are scheduled to have a planned surgery to remove part of your pancreas (the left side), with or without also having your spleen removed
  • You are 18 years old or older
  • You are able to understand the study information and are willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part

Who may not be able to join:

  • You are under 18 years old
  • You are currently pregnant
  • You have had any previous surgery on your pancreas
  • You have previously had surgery to remove part of your stomach, or have had a gastric bypass or sleeve gastrectomy (stomach-reducing weight loss surgery)
  • You have previously had a procedure to create a connection between a stomach cyst and your stomach (confirm with trial site)
  • You have had a prior procedure using a camera or ultrasound that could not be completed due to a narrowing in your food pipe or digestive tract
  • You have a certain type of hiatal hernia (a condition where part of the stomach pushes into the chest) classified as Type 3 or Type 4, found either before or during surgery
  • You are having additional organs removed during the same surgery, other than the pancreas, spleen, or gallbladder
  • During your surgery, the surgeon needs to use a specific stitching technique to close the cut edge of the pancreas (confirm with trial site)
  • You experience unexpected heavy bleeding or scarring during surgery that makes it unsafe to proceed without placing a drain inside your abdomen
  • You are not able to give informed consent to take part in the study
