Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults (men or women) between 18 and 70 years of age who have been diagnosed with a depressive episode, recurring depression, or bipolar disorder
- People whose depression was rated as moderate or severe before starting the initial treatment in this study (based on a standard depression rating scale score above 16)
- People who responded well to the initial brain stimulation treatment used in this study — meaning their depression score either dropped by at least half, or fell below 11 points by the end of treatment
- People who do not have psychotic symptoms (such as hallucinations or delusions) at the time of the study
- People who do not have any other significant psychiatric conditions, as determined by the study doctor
- People who live in Germany and speak German well enough to understand the study information
- People who are able to give their own informed consent to participate
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a pacemaker, insulin pump, or any other electrical implants or metal objects inside their body (as these are safety concerns for brain stimulation treatment)
- People with serious neurological conditions, such as stroke, epilepsy, brain malformations, neurodegenerative diseases, or a history of severe head injury
- People who are currently misusing or are dependent on alcohol, amphetamines, cocaine, benzodiazepines, anticonvulsants, or opiates
- People who are currently experiencing acute suicidal thoughts or intent
- People who are pregnant
- People who are currently taking part in another clinical study
