Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are between 5 and 39 years old at the time of joining the trial
- People who have not been diagnosed with diabetes according to the American Diabetes Association's diagnostic standards
- People who have tested positive (on more than one occasion) for one or more specific immune markers in the blood that are linked to type 1 diabetes risk (known as IAA, GADA, IA-2A, and/or ZnT8A autoantibodies)
Who may not be able to join:
- Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or less than 6 months past giving birth
- People who have been diagnosed with diabetes according to the American Diabetes Association's diagnostic standards
- People who currently use illegal drugs, drink alcohol excessively, or have a history of drug or alcohol abuse
- People who are legally unable to make their own decisions, are experiencing significant emotional difficulties at the time of the study, or have a history of psychiatric disorders
- People currently taking medications that affect the immune system, raise blood sugar levels, lower blood sugar levels, or influence how the body produces or responds to insulin (for example, corticosteroids or oral diabetes medications)
- People who have had gastric bypass surgery or gastric banding (weight loss stomach surgery)
- People who have a history of inflammation of the pancreas (either short-term or long-term), or who have had all or part of their pancreas surgically removed
- People who have any other health condition that, in the trial doctor's opinion, could interfere with the study results or create additional health risks for participants
