Who may be able to join
- People who meet the requirements for either the patient group or the control group in this study.
- People with multiple sclerosis (MS) who are already taking part in a related study at Mayo Clinic (called the "Understanding Sex Differences in Multiple Sclerosis Spectrum of Demyelinating Disorders" study) or who are being seen at the Mayo Clinic Neurology MS Clinic.
- People without any inflammatory or demyelinating diseases of the brain or spinal cord, who would take part as healthy comparison participants.

Who may not be able to join

- People who are not able to lie still without moving for 20 minutes.
- Women who are pregnant or who are not able to stop breastfeeding for 24 hours before the study procedure.
- People — whether patients or healthy participants — who have taken certain steroid medications (such as IV methylprednisolone or oral prednisolone) within the past 2 weeks (confirm with trial site for the full list of affected medications).
- People who cannot safely have an MRI scan, such as those with metal implants in their body, a pacemaker, or similar devices.
