Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have been diagnosed with a long-term (chronic) pain condition, such as migraines, daily headaches, stomach pain, pain in one limb or joint, low back or chest pain, widespread muscle and joint pain, or a condition called CRPS
  • If you are taking any medications, you have been on the same stable doses of pain or mental health medications for at least 4 weeks before the study starts
  • You are between 10 and 17 years old (inclusive)
  • You are able to speak English and can complete interviews and questionnaires in English

Who may not be able to join:

  • Your body size or weight is not compatible with the MRI scanner
  • You have braces, metal implants, electronic devices, or any other metal objects in your body that could interfere with or be unsafe in an MRI machine
  • You have a fear of enclosed spaces (claustrophobia)
  • You are pregnant
  • You have another diagnosed condition such as a rheumatic disease, epilepsy, another neurological condition, diabetes, cancer, or inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
  • You have a diagnosed psychiatric condition (such as psychosis, bipolar disorder, major depression, or severe anxiety), alcohol or drug dependence, or a developmental condition (such as autism, cerebral palsy, ADHD) that the study team feels could affect your ability to safely participate
  • You have a skin condition or past skin damage on your arms or legs near the areas that would be used for sensory testing
  • You are younger than 10 or 18 years old or older at the time of joining
  • You have a history of taking opioid (strong painkiller) medications for more than 1 month
