Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease by a specialist doctor, confirmed using a standard set of criteria that includes slowness of movement plus at least one of the following: tremor at rest, muscle stiffness, or balance problems.
- You do not have any significant bone, joint, or nerve problems (other than Parkinson's) that could seriously affect your balance or walking.
- You are able to understand and follow instructions, and able to give your own consent to take part.
- Your Parkinson's is at a moderate stage — not very mild and not severely advanced (specifically rated at Hoehn & Yahr levels II or III, confirm with trial site if unsure what stage you are).
Who may not be able to join:
- You have severe involuntary movements (such as uncontrolled writhing or jerking) caused by Parkinson's medication that could interfere with brain activity monitoring equipment.
- You have a significant bone or joint condition, another nervous system or brain disorder, epilepsy, stroke, serious head injury, inner ear/balance problem, or serious active illness (other than Parkinson's) that noticeably affects how you walk or turn.
- You score below 21 on a standard memory and thinking test called the MoCA, or you have dementia that would prevent you from giving consent or following the study steps.
- You are unable to stand or walk for 2 minutes on your own without using a walking aid such as a cane or walker.
- You have been diagnosed with a Parkinson's-related condition that is not standard Parkinson's Disease (such as progressive supranuclear palsy, multiple system atrophy, or corticobasal syndrome), have had deep brain stimulation electrodes implanted, may have Parkinson's caused by blood vessel problems, or are currently taking certain medications that block dopamine or affect brain chemical activity (confirm with trial site which specific medications apply).
