Who might be able to join this trial:
This trial has two groups of participants:
Group 1 – People with Parkinson's Disease (PD):
- Adults aged 18 or older
- People who are already scheduled to have deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery as part of their regular medical care for Parkinson's Disease
Group 2 – Healthy Comparison Participants (without PD):
- Adults aged 18 or older
- People who are around the same age as participants in the Parkinson's Disease group
Who may not be able to join:
For both groups:
- People who have vision or hearing problems that have not been corrected (such as with glasses or hearing aids), based on self-reporting
- People who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant during the study
- People who experience claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces) or are unable to lie flat and still inside an MRI scanner
- People who have a severe chronic lung condition (COPD) that requires ongoing oxygen use
- People who have metal implants in their body that are not safe for use in an MRI scanner, such as surgical clips, staples, or a heart pacemaker
Additionally, for the healthy comparison group only:
- People who have been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease or any other movement disorder
- People who have a mental health or neurological condition that is currently untreated
