Who may be able to join

For the Crohn's Disease group:

  • Children and teenagers between 6 and 17 years old (inclusive)
  • Children weighing more than 25 kg at the time of joining the trial
  • Children who have Crohn's disease and need a camera examination of the bowel (ileocolonoscopy) for diagnosis or check-up purposes
  • Children with mild to severe Crohn's disease, as measured by a standard disease activity score called the PCDAI
  • Children who are currently on nutritional therapy (such as Modulen or Modulife), steroids, certain anti-inflammatory medicines, immune-suppressing medicines, or biological therapies, or who are not currently on any treatment
  • A consent form has been signed by the child (if applicable) or by the parent(s) or legal guardian(s)
  • The child is covered by a social security or equivalent health insurance scheme

For the Control group:

  • Children and teenagers between 6 and 17 years old (inclusive)
  • Children weighing more than 25 kg at the time of joining the trial
  • Children who have not been diagnosed with Crohn's disease
  • Children who need a camera examination of the bowel (ileoendoscopy) for another reason
  • A consent form has been signed by the child (if applicable) or by the parent(s) or legal guardian(s)
  • The child is covered by a social security or equivalent health insurance scheme

Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • Children or their guardians who do not wish to take part in the trial
  • Children who currently have an active infection
  • Children who are currently taking antibiotics
  • Children who are already taking part in another clinical trial that has an exclusion period which has not yet ended

  • People who are currently held in custody by a legal or administrative order
  • People who are currently receiving psychiatric care
