  • People who need emergency surgery
  • People who are having any other type of heart surgery at the same time

  • People who have moderate or severe heart valve disease before surgery
  • People with a history of chemotherapy or radiation therapy (cancer treatments)
  • People who have previously had chest (thoracic) or heart and blood vessel (cardiovascular) surgery
  • People who are taking water pills (diuretics) before surgery
