Who might be able to join this trial:
For people with Parkinson's disease:
- You are between 18 and 80 years old and are scheduled to have a deep brain stimulation (DBS) procedure on both sides of the brain
- You have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease (either typical or an inherited form) and your symptoms respond well to levodopa medication
- You are willing and able to give your informed consent to participate
For people without Parkinson's disease:
- You are between 18 and 80 years old and are scheduled to have a surgery that does not involve the brain or heart
- You have no previously diagnosed neurological (brain or nerve) condition or problems with how your nervous system works
- You are willing and able to give your informed consent to participate
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have obstructive sleep apnea (a condition where breathing repeatedly stops during sleep)
- People with a Body Mass Index (BMI) over 30 (considered clinically obese)
- People whose airway is expected to be difficult to manage during anaesthesia (confirm with trial site)
- People who have had an allergic reaction to anaesthetic drugs in the past
- People with serious problems affecting major organs, such as heart failure or significant kidney or liver disease
- People who have had a head injury or brain surgery that left the skull or brain tissue incomplete or damaged
- People with a history of alcohol or drug addiction
