Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged between 18 and 75 years old
- Women who have been drinking more than 20 grams of alcohol per day on average, or men drinking more than 30 grams per day on average, over the past year
- People who are attending a clinic appointment or staying in hospital to have their liver health checked and to get help with alcohol use
- People who have agreed and given their consent to take part in the study
- People who are covered by the French social security system (either as the main member or as a dependent)
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have taken antibiotics, probiotics, or prebiotics in the past 3 months
- People who have had bleeding in their digestive system, a recent flare-up of pancreatitis, ongoing or long-term diarrhea (unless the diarrhea is caused by heavy alcohol use), or a chronic inflammatory bowel condition
- People whose liver damage has a cause other than alcohol
- People who have a serious additional health condition, such as breathing failure, heart failure, severe mental health disorders, or active cancer
- People who are under a legal guardianship or similar arrangement where another person or body makes decisions on their behalf
