Who might be able to join this trial:
- The child must be between 5 and 12 years old.
- The child must have been diagnosed with diabetes within the last 3 months.
- If the child has had diabetes for 2 months or more at the time of joining, their blood sugar control level (called HbA1c, adjusted for insulin use) must be 9 or below (confirm with trial site).
- The child must have Type 1 diabetes, confirmed by needing insulin straight away after diagnosis, plus at least 2 of the following: certain diabetes-related antibodies found in the blood, being under 10 years old, or having a healthy body weight for their age (below the 95th percentile on growth charts).
- The whole family must be willing and able to attend study education sessions and follow the dietary plan required by the study.
Who may not be able to join:
- Children whose dietary needs or habits do not fit with the study's meal plans — for example, if the child follows a vegan, ketogenic (very low carb), or similar diet, or has major food allergies or intolerances.
- Children who have been assessed as having an eating disorder using a specific screening tool used in this study (confirm with trial site).
- Children who have another serious medical condition or take medications (other than insulin) that could affect their blood sugar or metabolism.
- Children who have a major psychiatric (mental health) illness.
