Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat) that is not caused by a heart valve problem, within the last 12 months, at any level of stroke risk.
- People who are 18 years of age or older.
- People who are either not currently taking blood-thinning medication (oral anticoagulants), or who have been taking it for fewer than 90 days.
- People who have a first appointment with a specialist about their atrial fibrillation scheduled to occur within 7 to 30 days.
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose atrial fibrillation is linked to a mechanical heart valve, a condition called rheumatic mitral stenosis, or moderate to severe non-rheumatic mitral stenosis (a narrowing of a heart valve not caused by rheumatic fever).
- People who are currently prescribed two types of blood-thinning tablets together (such as aspirin combined with clopidogrel, ticagrelor, or prasugrel) for a reason unrelated to their irregular heartbeat.
- People who need to take blood-thinning medication for a reason other than their atrial fibrillation.
- People who have a permanent barrier to using online tools, such as no access to the internet or difficulty reading English at around a Grade 5 level (confirm with trial site).
