Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 to 75 years old.
- People who have been diagnosed through lab testing with a specific type of colon cancer called MSS or pMMR-type colon adenocarcinoma.
- People whose tumor is located more than 12cm from the anus (measured by a camera scope exam), and where the tumor cannot be felt during a rectal examination.
- People whose cancer staging from a CT scan shows a certain level of spread (T3/4 or T1-4 with lymph node involvement), without multiple tumours or spread to distant parts of the body.
- People who are expected to live for more than one year.
- People who have been newly diagnosed, have not yet received any cancer treatment, and have no medical reasons preventing chemotherapy.
- People who understand the study, are willing to take part, and are able to sign a written consent form.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who do not wish to take part in the study.
- People who have colorectal cancer occurring in multiple separate locations.
- People who have a history of another cancer, except for certain low-risk types such as basal cell skin cancer, a specific type of thyroid cancer, or cancers that have not spread beyond their original layer (in situ cancers).
- People who are unable to tolerate chemotherapy, for example due to a condition affecting bone marrow function.
- People experiencing a serious flare-up of a major organ condition (such as a lung, heart, or kidney condition) or a severe infection (such as hepatitis, pneumonia, or heart inflammation), or those rated as very high surgical risk (confirm with trial site).
- People with a mental health condition, inability to read, or language difficulties that would prevent understanding the study.
- People whose tumour is causing a blockage in the bowel, or where there is a high risk of blockage, bleeding, or perforation.
- People who have nerve damage affecting sensation in their hands or feet that would prevent them from receiving a specific chemotherapy drug (oxaliplatin).
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- People who are unable to have a contrast-enhanced CT scan, or who have another condition requiring ongoing steroid (glucocorticoid) medication.
- People who have used steroid (glucocorticoid) medication continuously for more than 3 days in the month before signing the consent form.
- People whose tumour position, as seen on a CT or MRI scan, falls below a specific anatomical line in the pelvis (confirm with trial site for details).
- People who the trial researchers consider unsuitable for the study for any other reason.
