Who may be able to join
- People aged 18 or older.

- People with a very severe flare-up of colitis or a dangerous complication called toxic megacolon (a serious swelling of the large intestine).
- People who have not agreed to take part in the surgical procedure.
- People who, during the operation, need to have a different procedure performed instead of appendix removal due to unexpected complications.
- People who are pregnant.
