Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease
  • People who have deep brain stimulation (DBS) devices placed on both sides of the brain, in one of two specific brain regions (called the STN or GP)
  • People who had their DBS leads implanted at least 3 months before joining the trial
  • People who score 23 or above on a standard memory and thinking test called the MoCA — or, if the score is 23 or below, people who pass additional assessments confirming they are able to give informed consent to participate
  • People between 18 and 85 years of age
  • People who have had a specific type of brain scan (7T MRI) before their DBS surgery, and a CT scan after surgery (confirm with trial site regarding which scan programs are accepted)

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who are unable to walk — even with the support of a safety harness — when both their Parkinson's medication and their DBS device are switched off
  • People whose walking difficulties are mainly caused by a condition other than Parkinson's Disease
  • People whose DBS device has broken or faulty contacts in the active areas
  • People with a non-rechargeable DBS battery that is close to running out
  • People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
