Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat) that comes and goes, or that is ongoing
  • You are already scheduled to have a catheter ablation procedure (a treatment for irregular heartbeat) that is approved by European heart guidelines
  • You are between 18 and 85 years old
  • You are able to understand and sign a consent form to take part in the study

Who may not be able to join:

  • You are younger than 18 or older than 85 years of age
  • A scan before the procedure found a blood clot in a part of your heart called the left atrial appendage
  • Your heart failure has been rated as the most severe level (called NYHA Class IV), meaning you have serious symptoms even at rest (confirm with trial site)
  • Your heart is pumping less than 30% of the blood it should with each beat (confirm with trial site)
  • You have had a heart attack, severe chest pain (unstable angina), or open-heart bypass surgery within the last 6 months
  • You have a serious other health condition — such as cancer, kidney failure requiring dialysis, severe lung disease, or liver cirrhosis — and are not expected to live more than 12 months
  • You have a medical reason why you cannot have the catheter ablation procedure
  • You are unable to understand or sign a consent form to take part in the study
