Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with idiopathic Parkinson's disease (Parkinson's disease with no known outside cause)
- People who are at least 21 years old
- People who have already had, or are planned to have, a specific type of brain scan called a 7T MRI
- People who are scheduled to have a deep brain stimulation (DBS) device surgically implanted in a specific area of the brain (called the GPi or STN) at the University of Minnesota, using a particular type of lead (directional leads), as part of their normal medical care
- People who are scheduled to have this DBS device implanted on both sides of the brain, or who have already had the surgery, as long as their first programming appointment is still at least 2 weeks away
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have another significant neurological condition (a condition affecting the brain or nervous system) in addition to Parkinson's disease
- People with a history of dementia
- People who experience certain complications or side effects after surgery that could affect their safety or interfere with the study results
- People who are pregnant
- People who have had significant radiation exposure in the past year, where adding the radiation from a procedure used during surgery (called intraoperative fluoroscopy) would be considered unsafe
