Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People attending an orthopaedic trauma clinic for the first time after having surgery to repair a broken bone in an arm or leg, or any broken pelvis bone
  • People who score 5 or higher on a standard depression screening questionnaire (called the PHQ-9) at their first appointment after surgery
  • People aged 18 or older
  • People who speak English or Spanish

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who are currently taking medication for depression
  • People who have an allergy or medical reason that prevents them from taking one of the medications used in the study
  • People who have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder or a psychotic disorder
  • People who are currently experiencing thoughts of suicide
