  • People who have Parkinson's disease and are being treated with a medication called levodopa (Parkinson's Disease – Levodopa group)
  • People who have Parkinson's disease and have a device called Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) implanted as part of their treatment (Parkinson's Disease – DBS group)

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have another known neurological or medical condition, such as stroke, nerve damage, or diabetes, or any other condition that could affect how they experience experimental pain
  • People who have a known diagnosis of dementia, or who score below 24 on a standard memory and thinking test called the MoCA
  • People who have untreated depression and score 15 or higher on a standard mood assessment called the Beck Depression Inventory
  • People who are not able to cooperate with the requirements of the trial
  • People who are taking prescription-strength painkiller medications, unless the pain and its treatment have been assessed as adequately stable by a doctor (standard over-the-counter options such as paracetamol and anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen are generally permitted)
