Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have had a biopsy confirming a plasma cell tumour (a type of blood cancer affecting bone marrow) with a bone lesion that can be treated with radiation therapy
- People aged between 18 and 85 years old
- People whose general health and ability to carry out daily activities scores at a certain level or better on a standard medical scale called the ECOG scale (score of 2 or lower — confirm with trial site if unsure what this means)
- People who have either not been on any systemic (whole-body) cancer treatments for at least 4 weeks before radiation therapy, or who have been on the same maintenance treatment consistently for at least 4 weeks before radiation therapy
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are unable or unwilling to sign or understand the consent form
- People whose pain level is very low (less than 2 out of 10 on a standard pain rating scale)
- People whose systemic (whole-body) treatment plan has been changed within 4 weeks before radiation therapy, including starting or changing bone-strengthening medications
- People for whom the physical setup of the treatment is not possible — for example, those weighing more than 115 kg, those unable to position the limb being treated correctly, or those unable to tolerate staying still in the required treatment position
- People who have had a previous cancer diagnosis or previous cancer treatments
- People who have a history of autoimmune disease, even if it is currently under control
- People who are currently pregnant
