Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged between 18 and 80 years
- People who have been diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) that has no known underlying cause (called "idiopathic" CTS)
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a known allergy or sensitivity to methylprednisolone (a steroid medication) or 5% dextrose (a sugar-water solution), or who have an infection or skin damage at the wrist area where the treatment would be applied
- People who have had previous surgery on the wrist
- People who have had a wrist injury within the last 2 years
- People who have had an injection into the wrist within the last 6 months
- People who have had physical therapy for their wrist within the last 6 months
- People with a history of nerve injury in the arm or hand, a condition affecting the network of nerves in the shoulder (brachial plexopathy), severe nerve compression in the neck, or a condition where nerves or blood vessels are compressed near the collarbone (thoracic outlet syndrome)
- People with a history of diabetes
- People with a history of thyroid disease
- People with a history of inflammatory joint or rheumatic disease
- People who are pregnant
- People who would not be able to follow the study procedures as required
