Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People registered with the Penn Medicine Primary Care Service Line
  • People whose last two blood pressure readings from a clinic visit in the past 12 months showed a systolic (top number) reading of 140 or higher
  • People who also meet at least one of the following conditions: a diagnosis of cardiovascular disease (heart attack, stroke, or related conditions); a calculated heart disease risk score of 10% or higher; a diagnosis of diabetes; a blood sugar (A1c) result of 6.5 or higher in the past year; being listed on a diabetes registry; or a cholesterol (LDL) reading of 190 or higher in the past five years
  • People who are either not currently taking a cholesterol-lowering medication (statin or PCSK9 inhibitor or Inclisiran), or who are taking a low- or moderate-strength statin but still have an LDL cholesterol level above 100

Who may not be able to join:

  • People currently taking PCSK9 inhibitor medications (a type of cholesterol-lowering injection)
  • People who have a documented allergy or intolerance to statins on record with their doctor
  • People who are currently pregnant
  • People who are currently breastfeeding
  • People with a serious condition that significantly shortens life expectancy, including: cancer that has spread to other parts of the body, enrollment in hospice care, end-stage kidney disease, severe heart failure, or dementia
  • People who do not speak English and would need a translator
  • People who do not have a cell phone
