Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People admitted to a general internal medicine hospital ward for a reason unrelated to heart or blood vessel problems — specifically, conditions that are not made worse by having uncontrolled high blood pressure.
  • People who have had raised blood pressure readings on at least 2 separate occasions, with a top number between 140 and 180 mmHg and/or a bottom number between 90 and 110 mmHg, without any symptoms from the high blood pressure itself.
  • People who are able to understand what the study involves and are willing to sign a written consent form.

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have been admitted to hospital for a condition that could be made worse by uncontrolled high blood pressure, such as a stroke or other brain-related blood vessel event, a heart attack or acute chest pain episode, or heart failure that is new or getting worse.
  • People who have a condition that would prevent them from wearing a 24-hour blood pressure monitoring device (a device worn on the arm that records blood pressure throughout the day and night) (confirm with trial site).
  • Women who are pregnant or currently breastfeeding.
  • People who are not able or not willing to provide written consent to participate.
