Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are able to give signed consent and are willing and able to follow the study requirements.
- People who are 18 years of age or older.
- People who have been newly diagnosed with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (a specific type of pancreatic cancer), confirmed by a pathology test, and who are scheduled to receive pre-surgery chemotherapy (either FOLFIRINOX or Gemcitabine with Nab-Paclitaxel, or another approved regimen) following a specialist team review at St Vincent's University Hospital.
- People who have had a CT scan within the 8 weeks before joining the trial that is suitable for analysing body composition.
- People who have enough movement and strength in their upper limbs to be able to complete a hand grip strength test.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are unable to eat a normal oral diet and require long-term tube feeding or intravenous nutrition.
- People who have a significant history of not following medical treatments, or who are unable to give reliable informed consent.
- People who cannot or will not eat fish or pork products, for any reason including allergy, intolerance, religious beliefs, or personal dietary preferences.
- People who have a known blood clotting disorder (such as antiphospholipid syndrome, factor V Leiden syndrome, or haemophilia), or any liver disease that has progressed to liver cirrhosis, where long-term fish oil supplementation would not be considered safe.
- People who have uncontrolled high blood pressure (above 180/110 mmHg) that prevents them from doing exercise.
- People who have a muscle-wasting condition, such as paraplegia, motor neuron disease, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, or multiple sclerosis.
- People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding, due to different nutritional needs during those times.
