Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with diabetes and are between 18 and 80 years old
- People who experience pain equally on both sides of the lower legs or feet, with or without unusual skin sensations
- People whose symptoms have been present for more than 6 months
- People whose pain feels like stabbing, electric shocks, or burning
- People who have had an abnormal result on a specialised nerve sensitivity test called Quantitative Sensory Testing (confirm with trial site)
- People who have increased sensitivity to pain and pain from things that would not normally cause pain (such as light touch)
- People who have no problems with reflexes or muscle strength in their lower limbs
- People who have had a normal MRI or CT scan showing no narrowing of the spinal canal or other spine-related problems
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have serious heart or blood vessel disease affecting the heart or brain
- People who have had surgery, injury, or narrowing of the spinal canal in the lower back within the past 6 months, or whose history of these conditions could affect the study's surgery or pain measurements
- People who have pain that travels along a nerve from the spine down into the leg (sometimes called nerve root pain)
- People who have other spine problems, such as tumours (non-cancerous or cancerous), spine abnormalities present from birth, or an unstable spine
- People who have blood clotting problems, cancer, active infections, or mental health conditions
- People who are pregnant
