Who might be able to join this trial:

For "exceptional survivors" (people who lived much longer than expected with their cancer):

  • People who were 18 years old or older when they were diagnosed
  • People diagnosed with one of three specific cancers in an advanced (spread) stage: pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (a type of pancreatic cancer), glioblastoma IDH-wildtype (an aggressive brain tumour), or extensive small cell lung cancer
  • People who survived for an exceptionally long time after their advanced-stage diagnosis — at least 5 years for pancreatic cancer or small cell lung cancer, or at least 3 years for the brain tumour
  • People for whom a stored tumour tissue sample is available that is good enough in quality and quantity for detailed laboratory analysis, with records of any treatments received before the sample was taken (the sample must be at least 5 years old for pancreatic or lung cancer, or at least 3 years old for the brain tumour)

For "control group" participants (people with typical outcomes for their cancer):

  • People who were 18 years old or older when they were diagnosed
  • People diagnosed with one of the same three specific advanced-stage cancers listed above
  • People whose survival matched the typical (median) survival reported in major clinical studies for their cancer type, within a 10% range
  • People for whom a stored tumour tissue sample is available that is good enough in quality and quantity for detailed laboratory analysis, with records of any treatments received before the sample was taken (samples from people who had not yet received treatment are preferred)

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who were under 18 years old at the time of their diagnosis
  • People with blood cancers or any solid tumour cancer types not listed in the inclusion criteria above
  • People for whom a suitable tumour tissue sample is not available, or whose sample does not meet the required quality standards for laboratory analysis
