Who might be able to join this trial:
For the "Case" group (people with a diagnosis):
- Adults aged 18 or older
- People who have been diagnosed with colorectal cancer or a significant colon polyp (advanced adenoma) confirmed by colonoscopy and tissue testing
- People who have agreed to take part by signing a consent form before any study procedures begin
For the "Control" group — General Risk:
- People with no history of colorectal polyps (adenomas or sessile serrated polyps)
- People with no history of inflammatory bowel disease lasting 8–10 years or more
- People with no family history of colorectal cancer in a parent, sibling, or child
- People confirmed by colonoscopy to not have colorectal cancer or significant polyps
- People who have agreed to take part by signing a consent form before any study procedures begin
For the "Control" group — Higher Risk:
- People who meet at least one of the following: a score of 3 or more on the Asia-Pacific Colorectal Screening (APCS) scoring tool; a parent, sibling, or child with colorectal cancer; a previous positive stool blood test; any two of these factors — long-term diarrhoea, long-term constipation, bloody or mucous stools, a history of significant psychological stress, a history of appendix problems or appendix removal, or a history of bile duct or gallbladder problems or gallbladder removal; or a diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease
- People confirmed by colonoscopy to not have colorectal cancer or significant polyps
- People who have agreed to take part by signing a consent form before any study procedures begin
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have had another type of cancer (other than certain common skin cancers)
- People who have previously had surgery, endoscopic treatment, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, radiation, or other treatments related to colorectal cancer or significant polyps
- People with an inherited colorectal condition, such as Lynch syndrome, familial adenomatous polyposis, Peutz-Jeghers syndrome, or several other hereditary bowel disorders
- People who have taken certain strong anti-cancer medications (such as methotrexate or cyclophosphamide) for any reason in the 30 days before their blood sample is taken
- People who have received a blood transfusion of any kind in the 2 weeks before joining
- People who have previously had an organ transplant, bone marrow transplant, or stem cell transplant
- People who are pregnant
- People who have taken anti-infection medications (such as antibiotics or antivirals) in the 14 days before their blood sample is taken
- People who are unable to complete study procedures such as blood tests and related examinations
- People the trial investigators consider unsuitable for participation for any other reason
