  • You have a history of brain lesions, such as those caused by multiple sclerosis or a brain tumour
  • You have a history of blood vessel problems in the brain, such as a stroke
  • You have had a moderate or severe traumatic brain injury in the past
  • You have been diagnosed with a major psychiatric condition such as schizophrenia, or your depression score is 14 or higher on the Beck Depression Inventory
  • You have significant difficulties with memory or thinking, based on a score below 20 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment
  • You have had a treatment called TMS (a non-invasive brain stimulation therapy) within the past year
  • You are pregnant (this will be checked for female patients)
  • You have any metal objects inside your skull, not including standard dental fillings
  • You are currently taking substances or medications that are known to noticeably lower the threshold for having a seizure
