Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are pregnant and aged 18 or older
- People who enrolled at or before 16 weeks and 6 days of pregnancy, based on their estimated due date calculated using standard obstetric guidelines
- People carrying a single live baby in the uterus
- People who have at least one high-risk factor for hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (high blood pressure conditions during pregnancy), such as: a previous pregnancy complicated by preeclampsia (a serious blood pressure condition), high blood pressure diagnosed before the current pregnancy, chronic kidney disease, or an autoimmune condition such as antiphospholipid syndrome or lupus
- OR people who have two or more moderate-risk factors, such as: never having given birth at or after 20 weeks, having a body mass index (a weight-to-height measurement) of 30 or above at enrolment, being aged 35 or older at the expected due date, identifying as Black race, having a low income, having had a previous pregnancy with a small or low-birthweight baby or an unexplained stillbirth, having had placental abruption, having a gap of more than 10 years between pregnancies, conceiving through IVF, or having a mother or sister who had preeclampsia
- OR people who are already taking part in another clinical trial comparing two different doses of aspirin for preventing high blood pressure disorders in pregnancy
Who may not be able to join:
- People under 18 years of age
- People who are involuntarily confined or detained
- People considered to have a reduced ability to make their own decisions
- People carrying more than one baby (such as twins or triplets)
- People with diabetes that existed before pregnancy, or gestational diabetes diagnosed before 20 weeks of pregnancy
- People where a chromosomal abnormality, major physical abnormality, fetal death, or planned termination of pregnancy is already known or suspected
- People with a known allergy or sensitivity to aspirin, or a medical condition that means aspirin is not safe for them — for example, stomach ulcers, nasal polyps, asthma triggered by anti-inflammatory medications, gastrointestinal bleeding, G6PD deficiency, severe liver problems, or bleeding disorders
- People who plan to give birth at a different hospital, or who are already in another study that could affect the main outcomes of this trial, unless prior approval has been given (confirm with trial site)
