Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been taking benzodiazepine medications (a type of sedative or anti-anxiety drug) continuously for 3 months or more, as well as people who have never taken benzodiazepines (to serve as a comparison group)
- People who have completed at least 6 years of schooling
- People who have not consumed alcohol, coffee, or any other mind-altering substances in the 24 hours before their assessment appointment
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a condition that has caused damage to the brain, such as a head injury, dementia, epilepsy, or a brain tumour
- People who have a serious illness affecting the body, such as cancer
- People who have had a stroke or other serious brain blood vessel event in the past 3 months
- People who have a history of misusing substances other than benzodiazepines, such as alcohol or opioids
- People who are unable to participate in brain scanning procedures (fNIRS and PET/MRI) or complete questionnaire-based assessments
