Who might be able to join this trial:
For older adults:
- People who have a confirmed or validated case with Adult Protective Services (APS) involving elder mistreatment or self-neglect
- People who are able to give their own consent to participate
- People who speak English or Spanish
- People who can hear well enough to have a telephone conversation
- People who are at the stage where their APS case is being wrapped up or closed
For students:
- People who are currently enrolled at a college or university
- People studying in a health-related program
- People who are able to commit to making 8 phone calls, one per week for 8 consecutive weeks
- People who are able to complete a required 1-hour training and assessment before participating
Who may not be able to join:
For older adults:
- People who need someone else to provide consent on their behalf
- People who have suspected or confirmed difficulties with decision-making, or who have uncontrolled psychiatric conditions such as schizophrenia, paranoia, delusions, or delirium
For students:
- People who are only joining the program in order to fulfil a school or university requirement
