Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older
- People experiencing pain on one side of the body that shoots or radiates down into a leg (with or without lower back pain), following the path of specific nerve routes
- People whose symptoms match what is visible on an MRI scan
- People who have had this type of radiating nerve pain for three months or longer
- People who have had a nerve-related electrical test (EMG), whether the result was normal or showed a problem
- People whose pain has been identified as nerve-type pain using a specific questionnaire called the DN4
- People who have already had a diagnostic nerve-blocking procedure that gave a positive result
- People who have signed a consent form agreeing to take part in the trial
Who may not be able to join:
- People under 18 years of age
- People whose lower back pain does not involve nerve pain radiating down the leg
- People whose MRI results do not match their reported symptoms
- People who have a condition affecting the nerves throughout their lower limbs generally (peripheral neuropathy)
- People with a history of, or a current diagnosis of, a serious mental health condition
- People with moderate or severe difficulties with thinking or memory, or signs of a sudden-onset confused mental state
- People who have an infection at the area where an injection would be given
- People who have a condition affecting how their blood clots
- People who are pregnant
- People who do not wish to sign the consent form
- People who have an allergy to the dye used in imaging procedures (radiological contrast)
