Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who agree to take part and sign a consent form
- People who have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (based on 2024 American Diabetes Association criteria)

Who may not be able to join:

- People who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant
- People who follow a vegetarian diet or are currently trying to lose weight
- People currently taking certain blood sugar-lowering tablets (such as alpha-glucosidase inhibitors or DPP-IV inhibitors)
- People who have used steroid medications (glucocorticoids) in the past 30 days
- People with a history of severe food allergies
- People who have had a serious diabetes-related emergency (such as diabetic ketoacidosis or hyperosmolar hyperglycaemic state) in the past 6 months
- People who have stomach-emptying problems (gastroparesis), inflammatory bowel disease, or similar digestive complications
- People with high levels of protein in their urine or significantly reduced kidney function, based on specific blood and urine test results
- People with thyroid problems that are not well controlled, based on specific thyroid test results
- People with a history of heart disease, blocked heart arteries, or irregular heartbeat
- People with seriously reduced liver function, based on specific liver test results
- People with a history of cancer; people who have had tumours or surgery that affects digestion or how the body absorbs nutrients; people with a history of non-cancerous tumours where a doctor has judged participation to be unsuitable
- People with other immune system diseases or infections that are not well controlled
- People with alcohol or drug misuse issues, mental health conditions, or other circumstances that the trial team considers make participation unsuitable
- People with any other condition that is likely to interfere with taking part in or evaluating the trial
