Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who experience slowness of movement, along with resting tremor (shaking when the body is still) and/or muscle stiffness.
  • People whose CT scan of the appendix suggests chronic appendicitis, as assessed by two experienced specialists.
  • People (and their guardians, where applicable) who are willing to give informed consent and sign the consent form for this study.
  • People who have normal blood clotting function.
  • People who have been taking oral Parkinson's disease medication at a stable dose for at least 2 weeks before joining the study.

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have been taking medications that block or reduce dopamine, where the dose and duration are consistent with medication-caused Parkinsonism (movement problems caused by the drug itself).
  • People whose brain imaging shows normal function in the part of the brain's dopamine system involved in movement (confirm with trial site).
  • People who have experienced a severe head injury or had complex brain surgery within the 5 years before joining the study.
  • People who have been diagnosed with a cognitive (thinking and memory) condition outside the Parkinson's spectrum, such as Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal dementia, or Niemann-Pick disease.
  • People who have been diagnosed with a severe mental health condition — such as epilepsy, bipolar disorder, or a major depressive episode — based on DSM-V criteria.
  • People who have serious conditions such as loss of consciousness, stroke, serious heart disease, diabetes, liver or kidney disease, or significant problems with vision or hearing.
  • People who have severe difficulty swallowing, or who the research team determines would be unable to complete all required visits and assessments as outlined in the study plan.
